Laurie, I just use plain computer paper - it's so easy to find, reasonably priced, and has served me very well. Once you add gesso, paint, and medium to it, it's a wonderful surface to work on. The spray is the 505 spray. It's my favorite. I've t...

Deb Has Landed!

Today, my husband and I drove into Toronto and picked up my friend Deb Sims from the airport. Deb is an extraordinary artist, and one of the funniest people you could ever meet. When you are around her, your lungs get a real workout. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday we are going to PLAY, PLAY, PLAY [...]

Sometimes Love Hurts

Sometimes, love hurts. We might even question if exposing ourselves to love is worth the potential pain.   But love is not just a surface emotion: it embodies a wide spectrum of feelings. So wide, that poets, writers, artists, saviours, politicians, advertisers and countless others have tried to define and describe it through the ages. Various holy writings [...]

Photo Issues with Firefox

A lot of my Flickr photos are not showing up on my site. I went online and realized this is a Firefox issue, NOT a Flickr problem. The photos ALL show up when I use Safari. If you are using Firefox, I apologize for any blanks may be seeing. Do you have any image issues? How [...]

A Playful Self Portrait

As a matter of principle (oh my, doesn’t that sound high-falutin’), I do not take part in chain letters, except to break them. But a chain art exchange? That’s a different story. Why? Because Dayna Collins asked me, that’s why, the art facilitator extraordinaire. Just spend some time on her blog and count the number of ways [...]

I Am MAD at Audrey Niffenegger

Before I made an art book of my own, I was only marginally aware of the vast world of hand made art books. Now I can’t stop investigating that world, and Audrey Niffenegger has had some significant success in it. Christopher Borrelli, of The Chicago Tribune tells us: For 25 years, Niffenegger has had solo art [...]

Hey everyone, see my first video!

Here's what I wrote on the Quilting Arts Ning:

I wrote the article Cracked Paper Quilts for Quilting Arts, issue 39. I have just made a video (my first!) which shows how I piece and appliqué the top for a paper quilt.

Hopefully this will be useful to readers of the article.

I Created a Cracked Paper Quilt Book

I am SOOOOOO excited about this! I created my first art book EVER and I made it from scratch using my CPQ techniques.

I had plans to launch a book making workshop, but I have been asked to submit it to a magazine and therefore must keep it on hold for a while.

I still envision publishing a book about making these books, so stay tuned! I want YOU as part of this excitement, and possibly as part of the "gallery" in the book (or e-book). I have a… Continue

I am an artist . . . . period.

I just did a post for Silverspring Studio featuring artist Jylian Gustlin.

Her work reminded me of something that I keep having to tell myself: I can do more than one thing!

I have this terrible tendency to want to be able to explain my work succinctly--I am a paper quilt artist, I make art quilts, I do mixed media, I paint… Continue

Feather Keeper

collage, acrylic pen, feathers, etc., 15″ X 15″

I needed a place to put the feathers that I’m always collecting, especially now that my beautiful Silver Laced Wyandotte and Plymouth Barred Rock hens are molting. Then there’s the Canadian geese, egret and various assorted other bird feathers. So, armed w… Continue

Updated Paper Applique

I updated the paper applique article a bit by adding a pic of the stitched and cut out appliques. I will post the "base" later tonight. The base will become the paper quilt, but I hesitate to call it that at this point! It still needs painting, collage and whatever else comes to me as I contemplate it!
